ISC is a non-profit organization formed under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue code. The mission of ISC is to advance semantic computing that can benefit human lives. We appreciate any donations from general public to sustain our growth. Donations may be made online or by check (refund policy).
Founding Director: The ISC team is led by Dr. Phillip Sheu who is also a professor of EECS and BME at the University of California, Irvine. He received his Ph.D. and M. S. degrees from the University of California at Berkeley in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His current interests include semantic computing and complex biomedical systems. He is a fellow of IEEE, Founding Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Semantic Computing, Founder of IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing, Founder of IEEE International Conference on Internet Operating Systems, Founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Semantic Computing, and a main author of the book Semantic Computing (eds. P. Sheu, H. Yu, C.V. Ramamoorthy, A. Joshi and L.A. Zadeh, IEEE and Wiley, 2010).
Associate Director: Catherine Spear brings 20 years of national, regional and local professional experience in the non-profit sector, as an executive director, campaign counsel, trainer and consultant in nonprofit organizational development. Her organizational development work has included organizational assessments, development audits, board development, strategic planning, annual campaigns, capital campaigns, campaign readiness and board and executive coaching. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine and her M.A. degree from California State University, Fullerton, and has lectured and taught at both UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton. She is credentialed as a Certified Fund Raising Executive.
